On 2 February a small group including The Very Reverend Dr John Davies DL, Dean of Wells Cathedral and Councillor Philip Welch, Mayor of Wells, gathered in the Guildroom of the City of Wells Almshouses to celebrate the launch of the first ever history of this important institution.
Jean Imray, a former Wells City Archivist and a Trustee of Wells & Mendip Museum, spent many years researching this detailed book. At the time of her death in 2015, she was close to completing it. A number of her former friends and colleagues felt it would be a fitting tribute to her to ensure that the work was published. Accordingly, three of them have edited the book and prepared it for print.
A printed copy of Wells Old Almshouse was presented to Charles Cain, Chair of the Board of the City of Wells Almshouses, at the event. A PDF of the book is available to download here.
